Allergies are a common cause of itching as is dry, flaky skin or debris from demodex mites. People who are highly sensitive can sometimes feel something crawling, possibly demodex mites, at the base of the lashes. The crawling sensation can cause itching.
Itching can also occur when skin, scalded by warm compresses, begins to heal. Scalding can happen if warm compresses are too hot.
