Blepharitis

What is blepharitis?

Blepharitis simply means an inflammation of the blephara, or eye lids. It is typically a chronic condition that requires extended or lifelong treatment. There are two types of blepharitis, anterior blepharitis and posterior blepharitis. Posterior blepharitis has also frequently been referred to as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). However, MGD may not always be associated with the inflammatory signs of posterior blepharitis, and MGD is only one cause of posterior blepharitis.
