Families and friends do not always understand just how desperate someone with Dry Eye can be to find relief. Some may feel that their lives have been ruined by this disease. Some are on the verge of losing hope, or may already have. Exacerbating the situation, some doctors do not seem to understand and say things like, “You’re just grasping at straws,” or “At least you don’t have cancer,” as if not having cancer should be somehow comforting.
Desperation, accompanied by severe eye pain and discomfort, can lead to irrational thoughts and desperate acts. Keep in mind, that although you may feel that you are going through this alone, many have gone through various stages of the disease, and are now able to resume their lives.
We understand your despair, and we encourage you not to give up hope.
