Surgery with radio waves or thermal cautery is sometimes used to treat conjunctivochalasis. The treatment can be performed under local anesthetic in the office.
Unlike AMT surgery, however, all of the abnormal conjunctival tissue is not removed.
Some doctors prefer AMT surgery when treating conjunctivochalasis specifically because all of the abnormal conjunctival tissue that is damaged and unhealthy is removed and replaced, restoring normal epithelial function to the conjunctiva.
